Am I wrong to assume that tension/suspense gets completely ruined when you pause the movie multiple times to take 20-30 minute long breaks to chill in another room to listen to music?

I’ve brought this up multiple times even when I was a kid watching movies with my parents. I would say it completely ruins the movie (depending on the movie). It used to completely baffle me. watching a movie with my parents was a nightmare. Not only would they pause constantly to essentially chill in a different room they would pause in the middle of a “good part” because its “getting good”. All that build up leading up to this one scene and you’re gonna ruin it by pausing it for half an hour?I remember one time a movie was almost over and there was a certain level of suspense still in the air like something bad was gonna happen and they paused it I asked just this once if we could keep watching and that there’s only 10 minutes left and they said no, did their thing and then 20 minutes later we resumed it, main character gets shot not even 10 seconds after pressing play and dies and I remember sitting there empty thinking that this would’ve been such a good and emotional scene if I was in the mindset I was in 20 minutes ago and now? Ruined. They said it wasn’t ruined and they still enjoyed it so maybe I’m just bad at watching movies? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3eIU5LL
