Say what you want about older movies and their crappy looking effects, but man you have to give credit where credit is due when it comes to painting backgrounds. Before CGI allowed artists to fully create beautiful looking landscapes, they had to be painted by hand. There's just something about that old-timey look that really reaches out and give those movies a sense of wonder and timelessness that's hard to recreate with CGI.
