I just forked over the $20 to watch it on Prime and it was worth it. It really managed to retain the spirit of the originals while updating the VFX and scope. It also finds a nice balance of fan-service and originality. The daughters were a welcome addition and did a lot in service to the story— as opposed to simply being background characters, however, I found it a little off putting that they acted like female versions of their dads. Did their moms not have any influence on their personalities? Did external sources, like school? Seems not, but oh well. The director also wrapped everything up quite well, and kept the laughs coming, which isn’t a surprise since he directed the amazing Galaxy Quest.
