I just watched Terminator with my kids and they loved it. I then told them that this weekend we were going to watch T2. My son said "how are the doing a sequel? Are they sending back Kyle Reese again?" I then realized he has no idea that Arny is the good guy in this. The movie goes out of the way to make this ambiguous at first, but when I saw this as a kid the advertising had already ruined it for me.
