I freaking love Uncle Buck

Caught it on HBO tonight after going like 10 years without seeing it. I grew up watching this movie on TV with my dad & I forgot just how fantastic of a movie it was. John Candy is probably one of my favorite actors, with Planes, Trains, and Automobiles being a top 3 movie for me, but Uncle Buck is up there. It’s so goofy and weird, and pure 80s cheese. My wife hadn’t really ever seen it aside from passing moments when her dad was watching it, and she thought it was great too.I think the hatchet scene is by far my favorite, and everything else is just gravy. (Link: https://youtu.be/9sWnQ8y_M6A) Just the way he says “Come here, I’ll show it to ya” is so funny to me!It doesn’t feel too over the top funny either- I think a lot of modern comedies have a few laugh out loud moments between a lot of other stuff, but this movie just turned out chuckle after chuckle and kept going. Even little things like John Candy dropping another golf ball on the ground, or him trying to use the kids bathroom at the school, and especially when he’s at the party and asks the kids listening to Bust A Move if they were listening to The Grass Roots. Just a ton of moments that you’d miss if you aren’t paying attention. It’s actually a shame that it didn’t do well critically- Roger Ebert thought it was too mean and dark to be funny, and it only got a 51 on Metacritic. I’m glad it’s out there, and I’m glad I decided to watch it tonight. If you haven’t seen it in a while, definitely check it out! via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3hv3LKI
