An act is about 30-40 minutes long in a standard feature. What are your favourite portions of a film that you like going back to and rewatch without watching the rest of the film. For me it has to be the first 30 mins of Full Metal Jacket - it's some of the funniest shit I have ever seen in my life with Hartman. But it has this ability to switch to being incredibly dark, while still staying kind of funny. I can't think of the number of times I've gone back to the boot camp scenes and lose my shit laughing. In fact I think that FMJ is Kubrick's weakest film after they go into combat, but the first part is my favourite portion of any film ever.Apocalypse Now is also phenomenal from the outset, but I think it veers into becoming the greatest film ever made when they touch doen at Kurtz's compound. Brando's performance is magic and the shots at the temple are perhaps the most cinematic a film has ever gotten, to say so much with no words.I also love the scenes with the family in Tree of Life. It's so incredibly realistic but also artistic. It just hits different for me because of my relationship with my father. I also love the use of the camera in these scenes, Mallick has it up close and always in motion for this very intimate effect that feels like you're another person in this family, just following them around in such personal moments. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3dPINDS
