The Jurassic Park franchise never reached its potential because it was too concerned with jump scares and making raptors smart

Obviously the first one is excluded from this, since it focuses on everything just the right amount. JP2, JP3, World, and Fallen Kingdom are too focused on giving all the dinosaurs ninja stealth so the movie can have a jump scare every 5-10 minutes, and are also too focused on making the dinosaurs so smart that the raptor parody from The Critic is less ridiculous than what happens in the actual movies. All the sequels are just so littered with setting up jump scares and the raptors performing the scientific method that there wasn't any room to develop the actual good elevator pitches of each script:Lost World: Radical environmentalists try to free dinosaurs, that's a decent premise.Jurassic Park 3: Escape From New York-style rescue premise, but with dinosaurs. How do you mess that up?Jurassic World: There's now a heavily commercialized, successful Disney World-style Jurassic Park, but history is doomed to repeat itself. This time, though, we have Dinosaur Dundee as the hero. That should be dope.Fallen Kingdom: Commentary on the illegal animal trade, but with dinosaurs. The best parts of these movies are when the characters are seeing dinosaurs for the first time or when they're advancing the plot and dinosaurs are passively involved, not when the characters are getting stuck hiding behind a desk or car for 15 minutes because a 31,000 pound dinosaur two feet away is suddenly undetectable for some reason. It bugs me that we got 4 Jurassic Park sequels (fifth one coming!) and all they want to do is set up jump scares and give raptors diplomas instead of be good movies. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/36arPNO
