The Full Monty (1997) is still one of the most progressive and nuanced movies that deals with generally lesser discussed male issues

Recently caught The Full Monty again on TV recently and was struck by how ahead of its time it was in terms of dealing with issues that many men often have to live with but are afraid to discuss. Many films will either hide or make light of these issues but the film manages to deal with depression, suicide, body image/confidence, financial pressure, unemployment, sexuality, friendship, struggles of fatherhood (including shared custody) and the sense of belonging without ever feeling heavy handed or judgemental. It is truly a great example of British working class cinema with brilliant performances and writing that mean it has aged extremely well.EDIT: Thought I'd share the queue scene as it always brings a smile to my face via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3btP4DJ
