I feel like the sequel trilogy is underwhelming at best, however a bright spot can be found in the modern Star Wars by viewing rogue one.Good acting by a great cast propels this instalment. It’s a compelling story within the confines of knowing where it’s going to end.The casting of Donnie Yen and Mads Mikkelson are damn near perfect in their supporting roles. Krennic was a superb villain and yet a friend to Galen erso.It effectively demonstrates throughout the final sequence that everyone involved on scarif knows that they will die but pushes forward regardless of the out come.I find it largely a human story despite space wizards, laser battles and robots. Speaking of robots , K2SO is solid comic relief throughout.Mostly it manages to go to shallow wells like the sequel trilogy of a rehash, all you need is love and I am all the Jedi. These are high school fanfic levels of bad.The visuals are stellar but nothing unseen given the point in cgi history. Although it gave us something more tat a force choke to fear about darth Vader. It displayed Vader in a bad ass role not able to in the 70’s and 80’s.At first I wasn’t crazy about the cgi faces of leia and tarkin but I’ve come around to them being necessary in the context of the story.TL;DR rogue one is a tense and human story. Surpassing the sequel trilogy, despite not being a hard mark to meet. Excelling given the small story window that existed for the film via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2ZeQake
