Purely comedic films are often advertised extremely poorly.

This isn’t restricted to purely films but also tv shows, stand up specials and shorts. At the same time this isn’t a dig at the purely comedic genre (meaning not comedy/adventure or horror/comedy) but the fact that their trailers and advertising more often than not just don’t match up with the product itself.Their trailers often end up falling flat with their jokes paced wrong with weird editing. The presenting of the cast doesn’t often show enough of their character to gain interest. Big plot moments are included in advertising, be it trailer or a poster, as a key feature. Comedies aren’t exclusively guilty of this (see any recent terminator film) but I see it happening in their trailers more than other genres. All of these are supposed to grab your interest overall if not individually with the casting or concept alone, but for comedies they often really misrepresent their final products.Comedy films are fun and casual but can be meaningful, see Jojo Rabbit for instance. I’ll often give them the benefit of the doubt if the concept is interesting and not just another raunchy rom-com or shock humour summer film that have been done hundreds of times.Small edit: advertising does cater to their specific country that is being shown, some censorship etc, so some examples might not match. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2A3F3jv
