When A River Runs Through It was released in 1992, I was a high school senior attending high school at Ramstein AFB in southwestrrn Germany. One night, in the German city of Landstuhl, our Ford Aerostar, the family truckster, broke down while our family was out to dinner. We found a mechanic to fix the car. It would take a few hours. Since it was a damp and foggy night, we walked next door to the local movie theater to stay warm and dry. With Landstuhl being home to a large US military population, the theater, or "Kino", played both English language and German language films. That night, A River Runs Through It was the English language selection of the night. We noticed that the only people in the theater besides us was an elderly couple. After the film (which I loved, and remains among my favorites), we saw the elderly couple in the theater lobby, and struck up a conversation with them.It turned out that they were from Montana, and had been friends with Norman Maclean, upon whose novella the film is based. They went on to tell stories about him and his brother, Paul, portrayed by Pitt. They also remarked on how faithful the film and novella were to the real-life Maclean family, and the tribulations depicted in the film.Their presence and stories thst night only enhanced my love for the film. I love it to this day. I suppose you could say I am haunted by waters.... via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2QX2QGv
