Collateral (2004) has some of the best editing ever.

Michael Mann has this uncanny ability to capture many different angles and form shots with them that just come out looking so damn good. The Jazz scene for example probably has 20 different angles of the same thing and it just feels right. It adds a pace to Collateral that really sets it apart. The driving sequences are also stellar, the way he cuts to inside and outside of the vehicles with multiple angles for the same shots is just outstanding. They aren't only stationary either, some pan, and some even dolly in and out.The best editing comes when we get to the nightclub scene. The way he follows 4 characters and intertwines them into one is flat out awesome. I wouldn't call them jump cuts ala Edgar Wright but they are quick cuts that each tell their own little story. Vincent with his tunnel vision, Max with his helpless isolation, Fanning looming and searching for them both, Pedrosa looking for Vincent and the witness, all these quick cuts between the 4 really tell a great story.Cruise and Foxx both give stellar performances and the soundtrack is great, but the editing of this film is what makes it a classic.Any other films out there with editing this good? I also really enjoy the editing of Hot Fuzz. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2tDaE8w
