Am I allowed to make this thread? Its been released here in the UK yesterday so I imagine UK movie viewers will have seen it. I loved the film - gorgeous looking, covers heavy themes and Brad Pitt is amazing in the role. I like the slow burn feel and the world building was a nice touch too.As I said yesterday in my thread, many of the scenes in the trailer weren't in the film. Now this is a spoiler thread....so I'll go ahead. But I think the ending was sort of pessimistic about space exploration. I've seen Gray clarifying his intent in an interview since and I'm not sure if I agree. TLDR - Search for ET is pointless because we should love each other instead. It seems to be the anti Interstellar.Interstellar and 2001 prompt questions about exploration and alien life in a very awe inspiring way. But this film goes the opposite route and says that it doesn't matter if ET exists, we should be content with each other. I sort of get where its going, but I found that aspect disappointing and slightly condescending. The discovery of alien life would be significant even if we couldn't interact properly with it. Gray seems to disagree. There being no alien life at the end hammers the point. I give it points for being bold in what its saying but this element sort of rubbed me thr wrong way. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/32S7zgW
