Unrealistic tropes that have become so entrenched that people actually think they're real

Hollywood often relies on tropes and clichés to quickly convey some piece of information they want to the audience. But sometimes those clichés become so ubiquitous that people actually think that they apply to the real world. For instance, how many times in movies have you seen the cliché that people have the right to "One Phone Call" after they're arrested? Due to being exposed to those scenes, a lot of people believe that that's how it works in the real world. But that is not true, the police can deny you any phone calls if they wish or let you make as many as you want within reason, phones are a privilege. But for some reason, decades ago some writer came up with this completely fictional right, then other movies started acting like that right existed too, and then eventually audiences just accepted it as a thing that exists. What other tropes/clichés have you seen people in the real world think are real? via /r/movies http://bit.ly/2WWaeYF
