I saw this for the first time yesterday and it's great; probably my favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film (I've only seen The Master and Inherent Vice). Just about every aspect of this movie is top quality. Of course Adam Sandler's performance as Barry is great and really good casting from PTA. I mainly love the way PTA shows the effect Barry's sisters have on his life combined with his obvious social anxiety. There are so many scenes in the movie where Barry is talking to one of his sisters and you can feel his anxiety, specifically in this scene. I think a big part of what helps create this feeling is the music. The score is phenomenal for what the film is trying to be and I can't picture many of the scenes having nearly the same effect if different music was to have been used. One minute the audience is nervous and frantic right along with Barry, and the next they are peacefully soaking in the dream-like surroundings in the Hawaii scenes, where we finally see Barry away from his sisters and all his other troubles. Then of course there's the whole plot with PSH's character which is where I think a lot of the dark comedy comes from. Highly recommend this if you haven't seen it; don't be turned off by Adam Sandler's name on the cover. via /r/movies http://bit.ly/2F7E9C7
