I feel like this reddit board is a very diluted version of what the imdb boards were. Here you see a handful of news updates on what's coming out and the odd movie discussion - it's more like a news stream, combined with very vapid facebook-like comments. You even see the same comment over and over because it's people trying to be funny for karma. You also get the megathreads of big movies where your comment gets drowned in seconds - invalidating discussions. The imdb boards weren't perfect, particularly with popular movies like The Dark Knight board being absolutely swamped with spam threads. But what set that website apart is you could go into any movie board - read and be a part of a nuanced discussion. Especially with obscure movies, with little amount of threads - but the threads were very rich with people's thoughts. If the thread was made a years ago, some of the replies were months apart. It could be a slow burning thread of opinions but the beauty of it was people would get notified after months of a reply, then chime back in.I knew so much about the movie industry back then because of IMDb, but with the message boards gone I feel no inclination to stay on the site. Nowadays I'm not sure who's directing what, who's who, upcoming projects. I've lost touch with the movie world and I feel that we're being dumbed down by Netflix.I was reading the comments on the trailer for the Hobbs & Shaw movie. "Used to be about cars now it be about superheros. Im gonna be there opening night lol" - Saw this comment like 15 times before stopping myself from reading any further. I hate to be that guy but this is definitely a generation thing - of very shallow and repetitive thoughts, like tweets or facebook comments on a board about movies. I just feel like discussion had died a lot.The imdb boards were so important, it's a shame they were taken down. No upvotes or downvotes. Just an oldfashioned, simple message board filled with decent conversations about every movie, ever. Even if the threads were years old and fizzled out, atleast they were still there to be enjoyed - archived. Now it's all gone and it sucks, man. Also forgot to mention the American Psycho board was some of the most hilarious shit on the entire internet. via /r/movies http://bit.ly/2G3O51P
