Who in a traditionally ‘non-Oscar’ film would you give a best acting Oscar to purely because of how great they played the part?

I’m watching Elf and can’t help thinking how Will Ferrell just totally owns that part and makes the movie what it is.Just got me thinking what other roles in films that wouldn’t typically be Oscar material were played so well that the acting in that role was arguably central to the success and legacy of the film?
