Directors that didn't seem like the right fit for a movie, but actually ended up doing a fantastic job?

Earlier today there was a thread about which directors were the wrong person for a specific movie. So I'm wondering, what about the opposite? What about a director that DIDN'T seem like the right fit for a movie, but actually ended up killing it?One of the most prominent ones I can think of is the Russo bros for Captain America: The Winter Soldier (and eventually of course, Civil War and Avengers 3 and 4).
