Is Top Gun sequel the biggest blockbuster box office surprise in last 5-10 years? It is already 22nd highest grossing movie worldwide ever, and still going quite strong (and all of that without China and Russia release)

It currently grossed 1.190 billion USD. It is still making $2m plus every day in USA (it will be more on weekend), it still makes around $1m per day in Japan, it made $750k in South Korea yesterday etc... It will probably end up as around 13th highest grossing movie of all time, and that's all without a China release which is 2nd biggest box office market by far and very close to US total box office gross (their total box office gross last year was actually over 50% higher than US one), and without a Russian release which is another pretty important box office market. Many high grossing American movies make hundreds of millions in China (e.g. Furious 7 made almost 400 million there, Avengers Endgame made 615 million in China, even crappy Jurassic World sequel that is still in cinemas made almost $150 million already in China) and $40 million+ in Russia. To think that Top Gun did this without 2 of these huge markets is amazing, especially since no one probably saw that Top Gun would make even 40% of its current total box office. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/mHvtJax
