When you hear David Fincher, you immediately hear stuff like Fight Club and Gone Girl. Usually Zodiac and The Social Network too. And those are all great films, but you don’t really hear about The Game too much.It was a movie that Fincher made coming right off of making Se7en. It stars Michael Douglas and Sean Penn, and is about a businessman who is invited to play a “game” by a company called CRS that proves to be more sinister than he thought. That’s it for any plot details because it’s better if you go into this movie knowing the bare minimum.I thought it was a very interesting movie, in how everything has a sinister tone to it. Everything from a man staring at you at an airport to someone bumping into you feels like it’s been orchestrated to happen to you specifically. This movie really succeeds in creating suspense on another level. The performances are on point as well. Michael Douglas is great in the movie. His heightening sense of desperation in the movie as he tries to figure out what this “game” is, is very captivating. Sean Penn is also great, and so is Deborah Kara Unger. There’s definitely a lot going on with her character, but I won’t spoil it because as I said, this movie is best when you go into it with the bare minimum.I’d probably have to say that the most powerful aspect of this movie is the overarching sense of dread. As you go along with Michael Douglas as he tries to make sense of this whole situation, you feel what he’s feeling and it’s like you’re in the situation with him. That, in my opinion, is the strongest power any thriller film can have.Recommendation over.Edit: I love that people are sharing my love of this film, but I kindly ask that you refrain from spoilers while discussing this thread, just because a person who hasn’t seen the movie might wander into this thread. No one’s spoiled anything yet, but just wanted to put that out. Thanks. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3kh051a
