Sator is a slow burn horror film made on a shoestring budget. It is beautifully shot and every scene is meticulously filmed to create an oppressive, dread-filled atmosphere. It doesn't rely on jump scares but still manages to be unnerving, and it keeps driving the creepy factor throughout the film. The longer the movie goes on the more WTFery takes place. Its dread and pacing reminded me a lot of The VVitch even though the two movies are not that much alike thematically. Even though it's a slow-paced film I was never bored.Another thing I found interesting is that the movie does not rely on the dialog. While there are some, the bulk of the movie doesn't have any conversation scenes. I counted 7 words total the main character says in the entire film. Instead, the film relies on just building tension and a brilliant sound design that goes from being uncomfortably quiet in some parts, to just the right amount of creaks and thumps to build fear.Without giving any plot points or spoilers I will say the last 45 minutes of this film had me on edge wondering what was going to happen. I was not disappointed. If you like atmospheric horror films that create existential dread without cheap scares this might be the film for you.I liked it so much I bought it to support the man who made it. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3qnaXfS

» Sator (2021) is proof that you don't need a huge budget, or CGI to pull off scares in a horror movie. How the film was made is just as interesting as the film itself.
