Just finished watching Robert Altman’s M*A*S*H and I was absolutely blown away

After doing some searching I couldn’t find a single thread discussing this movie and I really want to talk about it with someone. I went in knowing basically nothing about it other than it’s basically a hangout comedy during the Korean War but man once those opening credits with the FANTASTIC Suicide is Painless playing, it struck me with this sad vibe that ended up meshing really well with the rest of the film.I know this movie gets absolutely shit on for being sexist and what not, but am I the only one that sorta saw that as the point? For example the shower tent scene, it’s pretty standard comedy for a sex comedy and you are meant to laugh with the characters, but as soon as Hot Lips runs away and starts hysterically crying and screaming, it automatically makes you feel guilty for finding it funny in the first place. The camera just lingers on her ranting and breaking down, making it feel like it’s going on forever and I just couldn’t help but believe it was Altman basically telling the audience to feel bad for even finding it funny in the first place. And that feels like a lot of humor in this movie, it’s funny, but not because it’s actually funny, it’s because it’s actually quite serious. I don’t know how to explain it.But overall I just fell in love with this film and am planning to start watching the show now. Anyone else have any takes on it? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3ng7kGZ
