I still think Mara Wilson is one of the most underrated child actresses ever. She never resorted to being just "adorable", she often played her roles with wit and a wise beyond her ears intelligence that never felt forced or put on. Matilda was the perfect vehicle for her.Being a Roald Dahl adaptation, we get the dark humor with the over the top, bizarre cruelty from the villain Miss Trunchbull (a brilliant Pam Ferris). A character that had it been played straight would be more appropriate in a David Lynch movie but here she's scary and funny at the same time.Embeth Davidtz is lovely as Miss Honey, someone we oh so want to adopt Matilda as opposed to Matilda's horrible parents played by Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman, Goodfellas meets Archie Bunker. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/34FpF8J
