Danny DeVito's "The War of the Roses", one of the nastiest comedies about divorce. A far cry away from "Romancing the Stone"

After the adventure comedies "Romancing the Stone" and "The Jewel of the Nile", Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner reunited for this dark comedy, which was very different in tone from their previous films.Douglas and Turner were perfectly cast as Oliver and Barbara Rose, a couple whose divorce turns into a full-out war. This is one of Turner's best performances. I've always sided with Barbara. Turner perfectly captured a woman who realizes her worth and won't let her husband forget it.When I was younger, I didn't understand why Barbara was so adamant about getting the divorce until I watched it again as an adult and I got it. Douglas' Oliver is dismissive and arrogant, often putting down Barbara, being absent and not giving his wife any respect so when Barbara asks for a divorce, he gets angry. The fact that he doesn't know why Barbara wants out makes it worse because there's no attempt from him to take responsibility. If he doesn't know what he did wrong, then he never truly cared about his marriage so why stay married to a guy who won't even give his wife the respect she craves for. The way he goes about it is all wrong. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3knbFHn
