They Live (1988)

I finally got around to watching They Live (1988) the other day. I'm a sucker for John Carpenter, so I expected to like it and I was not disappointed. I knew the general premise, so there weren't any real surprises from the film itself. What did strike me was how well it has aged, which is both a compliment to Carpenter and a damning of the uber-corrupt power structure we live under. If a modern filmmaker made a shot-for-shot remake of They Live, it would still make perfect sense to modern audiences. The social and political commentary is just as relevant (if not more so) today as it was in '88, which only makes me admire Carpenter even more. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/30LhW82
