Scooby-Doo (2002)

This movie is so much better than it should be. As a live action adaptation of an animated show, it's amazing considering how many end up being unwatchable. One of the best things about the movie is that it honors the source material by getting the perfect cast for the main roles while also capturing the tone and atmosphere of the animated show. Matthew Lillard's performance as Shaggy is so good it makes you forget he's talking to a CGI dog for most of the movie. For its time, the CGI is quite decent and I think the animators did a great job of making Scooby realistic while still conveying a very cartoony and expressive performance. They really nailed that relationship between Shaggy and Scooby and it's a huge reason why the movie works. The movie isn't without its flaws though but I don't know if I would necessarily consider them flaws. It's very much a movie from the early 2000s and sometimes painfully so but I don't think it's fair to say a movie is flawed because it reflects the time that it was made. I think there's something really charming about how early 2000s the movie feels. There's a scene where Scooby and Shaggy get attacked by demonically possessed Sugar Ray, which is the exact moment where the movie went from good to great for me.Overall, it's a fun and charming movie that knows exactly what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. It's surprisingly funny at times even though I found myself initially reluctant to laugh at things like burps and farts but eventually I caved and it was impossible not to laugh. I feel like that was my overall reaction to the movie. I didn't think I would like it going in but it really won me over by the end. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3hpDRIw
