Do The Right Thing (1989)I have to say, as a white man who has never experienced injustice in a way that so many African Americans and others have constantly, there has not been a better movie I've seen to date to help me empathize with those affected. With an incredible cast, and directed by Spike Lee over 30 years ago, it is shocking it's still relevant today.Taking place on a hot summer day in Bed-Stuy, NYC, Do the Right Thing presents the viewer with the daily lives of several members from the neighborhood. Throughout the day, tension continues to build up as there is no escape from the heat. Spike Lee conveys one of the greatest commentaries on racism in the US in film overall, highlighting the feelings of helplessness in preventing it while offering methods in counteracting it, but most importantly carries the emotions to better learn how to empathize with others affected by injustice. With everything going on in the US today, it is incredibly easy to jump to conclusions on the motivations behind the actions people are taking, but I truly believe Do the Right Thing can help one better understand the reasoning behind what's going on today, and as a result, become a better ally to those who suffer from injustice.Definitely one of my top films of the year, if not my favorite. Now more than ever, I absolutely recommend it. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3cCFyyJ
