Jason Sudeikis in Colossal is one of the best nontraditional villains in the past 10 years

Just rewatched Colossal for the first time since it came out. I remember at the time one of my absolute favorite things about it is that going into it, I was expecting a potentially silly monster movie with a really weird premise. And then when I got there and the movie started to unfold, it took such a sharp turn into maladaptive, abusive relationship territory that I was not anticipating. But the biggest surprise was just how much it fit. Sometimes a sharp turn like that doesn't really "land" or hit you right when you're expecting one thing and then you get another. But this one just worked. And most of that goes to Jason Sudeikis' credit. From the firework-in-the-bar scene to the follow-up where he just shows up in Gloria's house waiting for her in the dark, the performance is just spot on.I'd be happy for the comments section here to turn into a gushing affair for how great this truly underappreciated movie is. But at the same time, I'd also love to see yall's other recommendations for other "nontraditional" villains? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/36Gyw9S
