Is the success of “The Lighthouse” and “Parasite” a sign of an upcoming boom in indie film?

I live in the Midwest and usually when I go to see an indie film or a foreign film the theater is pretty sparse. So when I went to se the lighthouse I was shocked to see a full house. A crowed theater for an experimental black and white film is unheard of in the Midwest. However this was on a Saturday night, on opening weekend, so maybe all the film nerds in the state just went to see it as soon as possible. Then the next week I went and saw Parasite in another full house, this time at noon on a weekday! Considering both these films are doing relatively well in the box office and have Oscar buzz, I wonder if this is a sign that we are at the beginning of an indie boom and we are going to see a huge rise in popularity for these kinds of films in the coming years. Does anyone else think this is likely? Are there any other indie/ foreign films that have become oddly popular recently? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/32lqn7S
