So the first trailer for the mulan remake dropped and it seems like some people are having some misunderstandings about it. So first off mulan was a legendary figure and her story is a venerated and respected Chinese legend. You can find it anywhere online. (If y'all want a link lemme know I'll post in the comments) the animated film tried to tell that story but it also had to be a musical and have characters that appealed to small children. Not disparaging the animated film because it was good it just wasnt the greatest adaptation of the mulan story because Disney had to make it child friendly. This film is trying to adapt that original story and tell that story well and it is not trying to remake the animated film shot for shot. Another thing is the animated film bombed in China because they felt it was disrespectful. This is understandable because the movie for them was like if some other country made an animated movie about the American civil war and made it an upbeat musical with bright and colorful comic relief characters and ignored or mitigated the very real pain and bloodshed at that time. As Americans knowing our history that wouldn't sit very well with us would it. So that's my spiel. Not trying to be a mansplainer or a know it all I just wanted to put this information up in case people were a little down on the trailer for not being the animated film.TL:DR mulan is based on a real Chinese person and this live action version is telling her story better more than its remaking the animated film.Edit: mulan 2020 not 2019 via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2FZoSnp
