In a short directing career that spans (so far) roughly 20 years the guy essentially kickstarted the MCU by fighting for Robert Downey, Jr. to take the Iron Man role. RDJ was still in the early years of his comeback and allegedly the studio was weary of casting him as he was still struggling to shed his 80's/90's image and they wanted a younger actor. Favreau compared casting him as Iron Man to Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. Furthermore, Iron Man and Iron Man 2 set the initial tone of balancing humour and drama that has carried through every instalment to date. Elf is a small movie that has joined the ranks of all-time Christmas classics like Home Alone, Miracle of 34th, etc. How many other contemporary filmmakers have made films that so effortlessly become this type of classic. Chef, to me, proved that he is still capable of telling small human stories. The Jungle Book, along with being well received on near every level, is revered for its revolutionary use of CGI. And now after reading about the use VR to film the new Lion King, I don't understand why we're not recognizing this guy more for his contribution to Hollywood cinema. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2XMMdCW
