Personally speaking, Batman Returns is my favorite comic book film. I thought Tim Burton was the best in portraying the world of Gotham: dark, gritty yet kitschy as well. I also see Michael Keaton as the best Batman because he was able to interchange the playboy Bruce Wayne with the seriousness of Batman, his tone of voice changes in a way which I never found contrived. With it said, the villains are whom I found most memorable. I thought the take on the Penguin was refreshing and surprisingly scary and Danny DeVito brings a dash of humor into the character. However, Michelle Pfeiffer kills it as Catwoman. From the Leather suit to the feline movements as well as her characterization, her take on Selina Kyle is complicated in the sense Selina is obviously unhinged, she has more in common with Harley Quinn as opposed to the comic version: insane and dangerous and morally ambiguous. Ironically those two aren't the worst, Christopher Walken as Max Schreck is the main villain.Overall, Tim Burton's Batman Returns gives you everything you'd want. Excellent action scenes, character development, superb production design and mesmerizing foes. I can see why it made less compared to its predecessors. It takes more risks. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2VIO07r

» "Batman Returns" (1992), a film which mixes Gothic aestheticism with camp and provides style as well as humor. Michael Keaton is effective however the villains are the standouts.
