This is one of Disney's finest films, and one I thoroughly enjoy for breaking all the cliches and conventional use of Disney imagery and storytelling. It's weird in a way as it feels more of a DreamWorks movie ala Shrek than a Disney classic. The movie had a story of production hell, with multiple rewrites and no one being satisfied with the end results. Originally titled The Kingdom of the Sun, it featured David Spade, Owen Wilson, Eartha Kitt and other actors before only Spade and Eartha remained in their roles of Kuzko and Yzma. The production was such a mess that the documentary The Sweatbox was released about it. More details can be found here: https://ift.tt/2zUoHXx movie was more serious and conventional Disney in style, and Yzma was creepy and not funny, even having the greatest animated villain song that was never made; Snuff out the Light: https://youtu.be/374xW4zZbZA, which was written by none other than Sting - sadly most of his tracks were removed from the final film (we would get Yzma singing later with the movie's straight to DVD sequel Kronk's New Groove and the animated The Emperor's New School - Like a Million and Yzmopolis, the latter which became Yzma's song in the Villains Tonight Disney specialWhile the loss of Owen Wilson and Yzma's song were very sad, I think the film benefitted much more from becoming a comedy and parody, which made it much more timeless. It's exactly by breaking the mold it stands out as a very unconventional Disney flick, and one I think is David Spade's best performance.Yzma and Kronk are totally the best characters of the movie (and the spinoff and the TV series). It's amazing how great of a comedic villain pair Eartha Kitt and Patrick Warburton are. Kronk's constant conflict with himself in the form of an Angel and a devil are hilarious. They also headed some of the most quoted scenes on Reddit, like "pull the lever, Kronk". via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2S5gJld
