Don't get me wrong, both of the movies are phenomenal, but I prefer the second one instead. I like how it explores Po's past and explains where he came from. I think Shen is a better villain than Tai Lung, because he has influenced Po's entire life. He is also somewhat of an opposite to Po. While Po was able to forgive Shen for killing his parents, Shen could not let go of his own past. Shen was obsessed with the prophecy that a panda was destined to stop his goals. He slaughtered all of the pandas in China and weaponized fireworks into a cannon to guarantee his victory. His actions horrified his parents, who banished him from Gongmen city. Eventually, Shen would return to the city. Shen's denial of the truth was apparent in the scene where the Soothsayer showed him that his prophecy remained unchanged. When he was confronted by Po about their past, he gave a speech about how Po's parents never loved him, before firing his cannon. In this scene he was actually speaking about what he believed about his own parents. Even when Shen knew he was defeated and understood how and why, he refused to give up, and lashed out at Po. Eventually, he finally accepted his fate, and allowed the cannon to fall and kill him. All of this combined with the excellent music and animation made this movie a 10/10 for me. Po's display of forgiveness was a powerful message, and Shen's inability to let go was just as powerful. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2EdhSnI
