Surprised I didn't see a thread about this.Tokyo Comic Con is this weekend and tonight (tomorrow in Japan) they had a panel talking about Godzilla: King of the Monsters complete with director Michael Dougherty on stage talking about his experience and thoughts on making the film. Lots of stuff was shown, lots of super important stuff to be exact.First thing's first, before the panel started, music was played over the speakers giving us (possibly) our first listen to Bear McCreary's soundtrack. The music incorporates the classic Godzilla theme, something that has never been implemented in any of the American Godzilla films prior. When Dougherty took the stage, he began talking about Godzilla's design, specifically using this photo of an upcoming action figure as a visual aid as well as an actual prototype on hand. Dougherty claimed that he "took the spines from the 1954 design and slapped them onto the 2014 one". Other new features include elongated toes and a rounded tail tip.Next, Dougherty talked about the big bug herself Mothra. This piece of concept art was showcased, giving us our first full view of Mothra's official design. Dougherty mentioned the red spots on her wings as being based off of Godzilla's eyes, echoing real life moths who use special camouflage to trick would-be predators.Up next was Rodan, who's concept art according to Dougherty differs significantly from the final design; the final look does not feature the "feathers".Finally, two pieces of art were shown depicting Godzilla facing the three-headed hydra King Ghidorah. The bluish, underwater-looking one was used as the basis for the poster given out at SDCC this year. But that's not all: most important of all, a teaser was showcased featuring Millie Bobby Brown's character and a ton of new footage. The end of the footage teased a "trailer coming soon" which Michael Dougherty claimed would be released "next week". Also mentioned by Dougherty is the fact that the film contains "many references to the Toho Godzilla films" and that fans would need to "see the film multiple times to catch everything".After the panel, the second most important event occured at the Tamashii Nations booth: figure reveals for King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan, giving us our first ever fully clear look at the three new monsters for the film.Honestly, as a lifelong Godzilla die-hard, everything revealed tonight was spectacular. The music was phenonemal, the information Dougherty gave about the film just made him out to be a really genuine fan of the franchise and seeing the new looks for the Big 3 just gave me goosebumps. I'm eagerly awaiting the new trailer next week and I hope you guys enjoy the little write-up I made for you.If you want to watch a recap of the panel (in case I missed anything Mike Dougherty might have said), YouTube user Chester Busby livestreamed the entire thing: https://youtu.be/xYIlDQUtNzE?t=332 via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2BLaI7F
