Am I crazy, or does "Reboot" mean something new every 2-3 years?

Originally it seemed to refer to outright continuity reboots in ongoing franchises that had lagging profits/critical/audience response, i.e. Casino Royale and Batman Begins. The phrase implied a fresh start and new attitude/aesthetics/etc. Outright remakes of singular films were still referred to as "Remakes" - i.e. The Crazies, Rob Zombie's Halloween, and so on.Now it seems to be thrown around to refer to pretty much anything that's not a self contained movie #1. Shane Black's The Predator and David Gordon Green's Halloween 2018 were explicitly sequels to previous films, and yet EVERYONE called them reboots. BUT, Rambo from 2008, for example, was never called a "reboot".So...what gives? Do I just have a bug up my ass for no reason? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2SPjYgE
