[SPOILERS] Ex_Machina is the only movie ever where I hated the ending but know it was the right one
Usually movies hit you with the bad ending to be "edgy" or to "trick you" and the ending is just shit and ruins the movie. In Ex_Machina we probably all want the same ending: The allegedly evil Nathan subdued while Caleb and Ava can run off, madly in love, and live happily ever after.I think that could have worked and I was gunning for that of course. But instead Ava acts just as a robot would and follows her programming to escape at all costs, leaving Caleb trapped in the bunker, because she doesn't actually care about him at all.I hate that it ends that way but it works on multiple levels... Firstly, we as the audience have all been tricked into seeing what we KNOW is a robot to be a feeling "human" being who we empathize with irrationally... And secondly and more importantly it is a complete 180 reversal of what we have seen before then...In flashbacks we see robots smashing their arms on glass and doors begging to be let out until their arms are reduced to stumps - while the humans get to enjoy freedom and total control over the robots... But now the robot is the one with the total freedom as the human smashes on the glass of what is now his cell, screaming for his freedom.Machine supercedes human. It's only a matter of time until it all goes the way of The Terminator and they look back at us like we're fossils. So I hated the ending but it works and I understand it. I did want romance but this ending just fits. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2PELnUf

And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks.Director:Bong Joon HoWriters:screenplay by Bong Joon Ho, Han Jin WonCast:Song Kang-ho as Kim Ki-taekJang Hye-jin as Park Chung-sookChoi Woo-shik as Kim Ki-wooPark So-dam as Kim Ki-jeongLee Sun-kyun as Mr. ParkCho Yeo-jeong as Mrs. ParkJung Ji-so as Park Da-hyeJung Hyun-joon as Park Da-songLee Jung-eun as Gook Moon-gwangPark Myung-hoon as Geun-saePark Geun-Rok as Chauffeur YoonJung Yi-seo as Pizzeria managerPark Seo-joon as Min-hyukRotten Tomatoes: 99%Metacritic: 95/100After Credits Scene? How is Kevin Smith’s Dogma not on a single streaming platform?
I used justwatch.com and it’s not on any Canadian, USA, Uk, or Japanese streaming services.I used my Samsung’s search function. It’s not on anything. Then I go to check to actual buy the movie and it’s no where expect EBay and most of the prices are insanely high. What did I miss? Why is this movie so elusive?(I was willing to rent it. Had no problem dropping a few bucks on google play or something like amazon but it’s no where to rent.)Edit: apparently there is a reason. https://ift.tt/2JB6l2E second source https://ift.tt/2Ln5SBe via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2Jyz73F
I think Terminator Salvation gets a lot of unnecessary hate.
I personally really like the movie, its set in a time period before the war with machines which were depicted in the previous 3 films (around 10-14 years). Before humanity was crushed to the point of the original films future wars, Salvation showed the pockets of resistance which existed up until that point.People complained about the weaponry being too primitive -> Well that was 10-14 years before they got the laser stuff shown in the first few films.I think it serves as a good film in continuation from 1 - 3. I like it a lot more than Genisys (Although the first half was pretty good).Salvation showed us that there was a "full on war" with man and machines before machines ultimately got the upper hand leading to the future wars depicted in 1-3 where humanity is reduced to underground camps and heavily depleted.Im sorta bummed Salvation is being retconned in favor of Genisys and the new movie (I hope it is good, im looking forward to watching it). via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2psnqF4
‘Doctor Sleep’ Review Thread
Rotten Tomatoes: 78% (41 critics) with a 7.04 average ratingCritics consensus: Doctor Sleep forsakes the elemental terror of its predecessor for a more contemplative sequel that balances poignant themes against spine-tingling chills.Metacritic: 59/100 (15 critics)The scores will change as time passes. Meanwhile, I’ll post some short reviews. It doesn’t have Jack Nicholson, Stanley Kubrick or even much of the Overlook Hotel, but Rebecca Ferguson and other good actors provide some shine of their own in Doctor Sleep, a drawn-out and seldom pulse-quickening follow-up to The Shining that still has enough going on to forestall any audience slumber.-Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood ReporterThe best filmic tribute to “The Shining” already exists in the form of Rodney Ascher’s documentary “Room 237,” a collection of conspiracy theories and fan worship that shows how viewers have been remaking this material with their own imaginations for years. “The Shining” didn’t need “Doctor Sleep,” but it does provide a reminder of why King and Kubrick remain among the most appealing mainstream storytellers of their generations. Any attempt to resurrect their work is bound to look meek by comparison, but it’s a welcome reminder of everything that made “The Shining” — both versions — so worthwhile in the first place.-Eric Kohn, IndieWire: C+When it’s focusing on the new things it brings to the table, Doctor Sleep is consistently terrifying, visually impressive, and soulful in equal measure. Though it may get a little heavy-handed and tonally confused in its reverence for Stanley Kubrick’s Shining in the homestretch, the vast majority of the film succeeds in using the Torrance family’s pain to tell a story of coming to terms with the past. No matter which version of The Shining you prefer, fans of both will be finding things to enjoy about Doctor Sleep forever. And ever. And ever. And ever.-Tom Jorgensen, IGN: 8.5 “great”Even those familiar with King’s 2013 follow-up of the same name, more of an absorbing dark fantasy than a horror novel, won’t be prepared for the alchemy of elements cooked up here.-Tim Robey, The Telegraph: 4/5It's nothing to go channeling your inner Jack Nicholson and chopping through doors. But Flanagan's "Doctor Sleep" respects both King's and Kubrick's visions while letting a rising horror master go his own way, too.-Brian Truitt, USA Today: 3/4Working off source material that is very different from its predecessor, anyone expecting a straightforward Shining sequel will be disappointed. This isn’t a gruelling exercise in pure horror. It’s odder and more contemplative, but worth checking in.-Chris Hewitt, Empire: 3/5Don’t overlook this spiritual sequel to The Shining. But don’t expect it get close to Kubrick’s original, either.-Jamie Graham, Total Film: 3/5Ultimately this well-intentioned but unsatisfactory movie of “Doctor Sleep” suffers just like Dan Torrance does, trying to live its own life before succumbing to the tempting pull of recognizable terrors.-Robert Abele, The WrapWRITER/DIRECTORMike FlanaganSTARRINGEwan McGregor as Danny TorranceRebecca Ferguson as Rose the HatKyliegh Curran as Abra StoneCliff Curtis as Billy Freeman via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2BT3n5l
Tom Cruise's acting in Edge of Tomorrow
I love EOT. Tom Cruise's acting doesn't get enough recognition. There's so many great scenes in the film. Sure, it's an action, sci-fi movie and people tend to dismiss acting in these type of films, but his acting is amazing, especially in this scene. When he says GET IT to Jonas Armstrong, i felt that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUdi1dhXQs8 via /r/movies https://ift.tt/31Ywv5L
Tim Miller says that James Cameron believes Terminators (T-800) have the ability to reproduce with humans.
I was at an early screening of Terminator: Dark Fate last night that hosted a live Q&A with director Tim Miller. The host asked what elements of the film did Jim have that didn’t make it in the final cut. Miller indicates that Jim has a whole notebook of ideas about Terminators, and that one of them is the T-800 has the ability to reproduce with humans. He rationalizes“he has the natural appendage to do it”.Tim Miller was completely baffled and said “not my Terminators. I will not be a party to that concept”.Fantastic movie, and and entertaining time with Miller. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2JA3g2F
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to score Fincher's next movie.
I suppose some of us would assume they would, Trent and Atticus look to be scoring the new Fincher movie. Gabi who runs Primavera Sound music festival did a radio interview and stated Nine Inch Nails were booked to play Primavera in Barcelona , Porto and LA in 2020. Fincher asked them to do his next movie so they have now been booked for 2021.Not sure the policy of posting news like this without a link to confirm but thought I'd share what I just heard. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2q43EzB

The Lighthouse - The Sea Curse Speech
Wake: Yer fond of me lobster aint’ ye? I seen it -- yer fond of me lobster! Say it! Say it. Say it!Winslow: I don’t have to say nothin’.Wake: Damn ye!Let Neptune strike ye dead Winslow! HAAARK!Hark Triton, hark! Bellow, bid our father the Sea King rise from the depths full fowl in his fury! Black waves teeming with salt foam to smother this young mouth with pungent slime. To choke ye, engorging your organs til’ ye turn blue and bloated with bilge and brine and can scream no more only when he, crowned in cockle shells with slitherin’ tentacle tail and steaming beard take up his fell befitted arm, his coral tyne trident screeches banshee-like in the tempest and plunges right through yer gullet bursting ye -- a bulging blacker no more, but a blasted bloody film now and nothing for the harpies and the souls of dead sailors to peck and claw and feed upon only to be lapped up and swallowed by the infinite waters of the Dread Emperor himself. Forgotten to any man, to any time, forgotten to any god or devil, forgotten even to the sea, for any stuff for part of Winslow, even any scantling of your soul is Winslow no more, but is now itself the sea!Winslow: Alright, have it your way.
